The scope of an interior design project can be as large and complex or as small and simple as needed. The process typically begins with Programming – initial questions to understand the client’s business, needs, future goals, assumptions, etc. This “Program of Spaces” determines square footage requirements and adjacencies between groups or individuals and is referred to throughout design.
Conceptual and Schematic Design turns the Program of Spaces spreadsheet into graphic format with floor plans, interior elevations, ceiling plans, sketches and other drawings. Initial color and materials palettes are developed to determine level of finish, durability and direction on colors.
Design Development further refines ideas formed in the previous phase, and adds details, lighting, and final color and materials selections to the deliverables.
Contract Documents show all level of detail needed for a contractor to bid and build out a project. They include drawings and formal specifications. These documents can also be prepared as part of a design-build contract or other method determined by the client.
Verifying that the contractor has met the intent of the Contract Documents is a critical part of every successful project. We will be onsite and available to coordinate questions from the contractor and subcontractors throughout construction.

MATERIAL AND COLOR SELECTIONS
We provide typical decorating services for clients, still with our commercial focus and expertise. Deliverables can include conceptual color palettes, color and materials selections, finish plans, finish boards, rendered drawings and contract documents.
We partner with all the major commercial furniture dealerships in West Virginia, but we are also able to provide clients with an unbiased approach to furniture design and planning. Having an independent designer take a fresh look at all available products, rather than only those with which they might be contractually aligned, is a huge benefit to our clients. We’re also able to provide contract documents and bidding documents specifically related to furniture.
Another critical component on any interior design project is lighting. Lighting needs to be functional, provide occupants with safe egress from buildings, and be energy-efficient. Plus, selecting just the right decorative fixture for just the right location adds that finishing touch to any space. Lamp color temperature also affects how colors and materials appear in a space, so close coordination with the specifications is important, too. We work with lighting manufacturers and electrical engineers to fully coordinate all aspects of a lighting design package.
Last, but not least, custom millwork design can make an interior space truly come together. Knowing when pre-manufactured furniture can suffice or whether a custom piece is called for is also important. Items like reception desks, circulation desks, and boardroom furniture can complete a design concept and showcase a space specifically designed for each unique client. We can provide design drawings and all manner of detailing, from contemporary to the most traditional.
