This warm September sun

Ten years ago I started Watkins Design Works in the Charleston Area Alliance small business incubator on Smith Street near Capitol Market. This year I’ve been busier than ever. It’s been fun working with 3 new clients on 6 different projects, and continuing relationships developed over the past few years.

One of my first new clients and new projects this year was selecting and procuring artwork for Charleston Area Medical Center’s Teays Valley Outpatient Center. This has led to two more artwork projects for CAMC.

Another unique art project completed this year was a 60′ long by 10′ tall photographic mural printed on commercial grade vinyl wallcovering. Check out the rest of Community Care of West Virginia’s new behavioral health clinic here.

The big news from Kanawha County is the completion of Herbert Hoover High School, just outside Charleston. The original school was severely damaged during the flood of 2016, and with funding from FEMA, is finally open this school year. I particularly liked seeing the terrazzo flooring being installed – a first for me. The custom mixes include bright red, white, and blue to reflect the school colors, and a dark gray containing river rocks (the school address is Elk River Road).

Lastly, the big news for me is a 10-year business anniversary at the end of the year. On December 12, 2013, I filed LLC documents with the West Virginia Secretary of State. So, on December 12, 2023, I’m throwing a party to celebrate, and you’re invited! Please put this date in your calendar, and I’ll send more details soon!
